The Deuce: I See Money
October 8, 2017 8:43 PM - Season 1, Episode 4 - Subscribe

Vincent and the mob continue getting complicated with each other, Candy has a variety of client experiences and considers other options, Paul gets a bit more involved, and so does Sandra. Larry's still a dick.

I'm warming to Vinnie, and now Abby is my least favorite character. Progress? At least I feel like the show intends Abby to be a clueless patronizing college dropout.

Rodney and Candy on the street. It blows my mind that it's Method Man inside that suit. We're a long way from Cheese Wagstaff. Rodney knows exactly what to say and how to approach Candy, and then he knows exactly how to break her down even more when she resists him.

I don't know what to make of Paul's story line yet, but I'm glad he's there.

I can't decide if Abby is going to be a privileged person on their way down, someone who is going to float above the fray, or what. One possibility that occurs to me is that she and Candy team up to finance a film company. They both seem to be able to see outside of the action a bit, Abby because she's not so inside of it, and Candy because she's smart.

I have a feeling that at the very least, Paul is going to be a vehicle for dance clubs to become a bigger part of the scene.

I love Slim Charles showing up as a bartender.

This episode (and the next one, too) belongs to Candy. Her story is making this show work right now, and it's heartbreaking.
