The Good Doctor: Sacrifice
December 8, 2017 10:20 AM - Season 1, Episode 10 - Subscribe

Members of the hospital's surgical team are initially impressed with a charming young doctor, but blah blah blah (here's the episode page on IMDB). Anyway, an actor from The Good Place shows up and all sorts of drama pops off in the "winter finale" of The Good Doctor.

Okay, I don't know who is still watching this and I'm kinda annoyed at myself for sticking with it so far, but there's some stuff I want to talk about.

Plus I figured if there's anything that has come up so far in the series, we could bring that up too?

Okay, so first of all, Jianyu from The Good Place is here! If you haven't seen this show yet, I don't want to spoil it for you, but I really dug his guest spot in this.

So at the end of this episode Jared is fired and Shaun is AWOL. Can this just be the Dr. Claire Browne show from now on? (All right, I know it won't be, but how awesome would that be?)

And yeah, I said above I'm kinda annoyed at myself for still watching this because the medical stuff seems terrible as far as I can tell. Someone has a thought like "let's do the operation to take the tumour off his brain stem even though it will cause some paralysis because otherwise he'll die" and it's treated as both epiphany-worthy and also obviously the right path once it's suggested. Was House this bad as well? I only watched the early couple seasons, but maybe it was just better about hiding it?

I'm watching! I know it's bad but I also like it! I'm basically the target audience for this kind of garbage! I don't even care about all the characters- don't know the names of most of the non-surgeons and will sometime FF through their storylines.

So fun seeing Manny Jacinto in another setting, even if he was playing the same guy. It works!

Great Jorb, Manny Jacinto. I thought he did quite well.

I am still watching this, mainly because I love Claire. Like...can she please have her own show? I also love Richard Schiff in this.

So...Sean's in the bus, right? Guessing he went back to the bus he and his brother lived in.

The show is laughable and does everything wrong but somehow has some kind of charm to me. Plus my husband thinks it's entertaining, so I just sort of go along with watching it.

I feel they could be doing a much better job with teenage Sean Murphy. He has absolutely none of the mannerisms of the adult Sean Murphy, and vice versa.

House was kind of like this, yeah. Basically every single show consisted of several incorrect diagnoses from several different doctors, and then 2 minutes before the end of the every episode, House would have an epiphany and figure out the problem.

it me

And it would be so easy from this point on. Hey, Jared and Shaun left, write them out! Then the Richard Schiff character can mentor her.

It seems to me that Shaun isn't even consistent episode to episode. I guess it depends on writers? They had that whole thing where Claire couldn't get him to answer her because she was asking him questions and he doesn't like questions, but as far as I can tell that only really held true for that episode (and only some of it).

House would have an epiphany and figure out the problem.

Either they were a lot smarter about it or I was a lot more willing to go along, because "Screw it, let's do the surgery anyway and he'll have to deal with partial paralysis." doesn't seem like much of an epiphany.

I'm also really enjoying Hill Harper, who I first noticed in Limitless.

The actor who plays Shaun got nominated for a Golden Globe! We fancy now!
