Vikings: The Plan
January 13, 2018 5:04 PM - Season 5, Episode 4 - Subscribe

Guided by Bishop Heahmund's visions, the Saxons devise a battle plan. Ivar the Boneless strategizes on his own as the Vikings undergo increasing pressure. Bjorn Ironside finds himself in a new territory and must convince the local commander he is a trader and not a raider.

* Bjorn, Hvitserk, and Sinric reach the Pillars of Hercules (the Strait of Gibraltar, the entrance into the Mediterranean Sea)
* Since apparently no one has bothered to tell Bjorn that the Roman Empire has fallen until just now, they decide to head to Sicily instead of Rome
* Sicily is currently home for a Byzantine commander, Euphemius, after a failed attempt at taking Rome
* The vikings approach pretending to be traders but Euphemius has no interest in traders - warriors on the other hand - are welcome as mercenary bodyguards
* The vikings are introduced to Kassia, a "famous Christian (singing) nun," stolen from the Holy City of Byzantium
* Sindric gathers information; Euphemius is merely a wannabe rent seeker with no real power, the real power of the Mediterranean - one Ziyadat Allah - is currently somewhere in Africa (Ifriglya)
* Euphemius has no desire to introduce Bjorn's vikings to Ziyadat but Kassia tells him to do it - apparently she isn't that stolen after all

* Ubbe returns to Kattegat and Margrethe, dines with Lagertha and they seal a pact against Harald
* Torvi counsels Lagertha against letting Ubbe have too much power, since the disappointingly un-returned Bjorn is Kattegat's rightful ruler after Lagertha
* An ambitious Margrethe has her own counsel with Ubbe
* Lagertha catches Margrethe trying to recruit Torvi and it ends in tears, then seeks her own counsel from The Seer

* King Aethelwulf and Bishop Heahmund lay siege to occupied York, begins by ambushing a foraging/hunting party
* Amidst the tension of being under siege, Ivar is a jerk towards Hvitserk - who's regretting sticking with Ivar over Ubbe, seeks a sign from Odin and receives arrows wizzing by
* Aethelwulf gains the allegiance and a company of the Northumbrians (Judith's family), Heahmund continues to be a cryptic edgelord
* Aethelwulf has enough already of Heahmund, plans assaults York against Heahmund's advice
* Ivar's vikings are in far better shape than they let on, then abruptly diappear
* Aethelwulf's battle group enters a deserted York, "Why are the rats above ground?"

* Astrid makes the best of her position as a kidnapee, assents to being married to Harald in a badass splint mail inspired dress

* con't Floki's "Come to Iceland!" commercial for Ferðamálastofa
