Gravity Falls: Little Gift Shop of Horrors
October 16, 2014 9:23 AM - Season 2, Episode 6 - Subscribe

Grunkle Stan tells three short "Tales Designed to Sell My Merchendise!" to a late night visitor to the Mystery Shack. In three loosely connected stories, Stan is cursed by a Hand Witch, Waddles becomes smart after eating brain-enhancing goo, and Mabel faces her fear of claymotion. With real claymation and Neil DeGrasse Tyson as the guest voice for Smart Waddles.

Stan's tales are supposedly non-canonical.

I really love when cartoons reference other cartoons or animation production.

My kids love this show, but when they watched this episode last night they found the end very confusing and upsetting, especially my youngest who couldn't understand why Grunkle Stan would lock up someone in a display case. So I told him "it was a joke".

Yeah, they've definitely gone darker & scarier this season.

I really liked the episode. The first part (with the hands) felt very much like a nod to the Simpsons' Treehouse of Horrors. Grunkle Stan mocking Dipper when he says "That sounded like a curse" seemed like it could just as well have been Homer & Lisa. In a good way though. But by the end it was totally Gravity Falls with the Game of Thrones style hand-throne and the make-over montage.

The second part probably had the most highlights for me with NDT as Smart Waddles, The What-the-heck-a-hedron (from the makers of 'Stressaract' and 'Annoyangle'), May-May and the Hogg: "Don't touch that dial 'cause the Hogg just ate it!" *airhorn* *airhorn* *fart*, and it still managed to get in the classic Gravity Falls point of putting the people who love you (and who you love) first.

And then the final part with the clay-mation worked well too. "You really think someone moves these figures one frame at a time? I'm not a masochist!"

I liked that the Hand witch was wearing the Manos cloak.
