SPIRIT OF 99 VIEWING CLUB - In the record-breaking heat of '77, a serial killer stalks NYC but the real danger may lie in your friends and neighbors.
DID EBERT LIKE IT? "Lee's best films thrum with a wound-up energy, and "Summer of Sam" vibrates with fear, guilt and lust."
THE BEST: The sprawling fever-dream collage of it all. Lee makes excellent use of music montages to evoke mood and louche tones.
THE WORST: This feels like, had it come out 5 years later, would be a limited run HBO series which it clearly wants to be with the massive running length and cast o' thousands.

Spike really caught the apocalyptic vibe of the time.
