Tales from the Hood 2 (2018)

Mr. Simms returns to tell more eerie, unsettling tales involving dolls, psychics, possession and ghosts. Rusty Cundieff (Fear of a Black Hat) finally gets the chance to make a followup to his 1995 horror/social satire anthology Tales from the Hood.
A much lower budget this time around, but still garnered an 80% fresh on RT so far. Available streaming on Netflix.

I have a real affection for the first installment, even though it could be kind of clumsily pedantic and its version of street culture is pretty dated. This new film, ehhhhh... even more pedantic and it seems clear Cundieff hasn't had a conversation with anyone under the age of 35 in quite some time.
That said: Keith David takes over the Mr. Simms role and terrible people get some bloody comeuppance. It still has its moments.

Rusty Cundieff is such a likable person and is so overdue for a better shot that I wanted to like this much more than I did. But it's a weird mix of speechifying and dated attitudes. I can't honestly recommend it.

This is a *very* 90's film. I liked it a lot, but I've got a lot of affection for that particular kind of horror-comedy.
