First impressions while the episode is still rolling... say what you will about Jax. But how fucked up is it that Jax's mother didn't tell him and his sister that their father was in ICU with cancer? And he didn't have an opportunity to say goodbye?

Good lord.

Stray thoughts--

-Stassi seems like a totally different person. Lisa's comments about pruning yourself down for a man vs. finding someone who will love you for who you are were spot on, and it made me so sad to think of the dickery she suffered at the hands of Boss Harrasser last season. I gather from my limited experience with this show (last season and this one) that Stassi can be unpopular but I'm stoked for her that this new guy seems nice so far. The fact that his mom is a relationship counselor bodes well!

-Stassi's spray tan and the ten shades of difference between her hands and her face drives me crazy. Like even it out, tone down the tan or your foundation, or stop touching your face so much

-Jax. Poor, poor Jax. It does seem like he's changed, but the 'watch and see' approach taken by the rest of the friends seems wise. His and Brittany's body language when they're together is awkward--maybe he was just nervous about the party and the engagement but compared to literally all the other couples they seem kind of stilted and formal. Everyone seems happy for them but I wonder if they're privately thinking what James said, which is that if you cheat and stay together you kind of have to propose the following year

-James. In a show about gross people, he's the grossest--last season I thought he seemed misunderstood and he seemed to show some vulnerability, IIRC, but this episode featured some vile behavior from him. Not surprised about his comments on other women's bodies, I knew that would be coming as soon as they foreshadowed the bit with Katie talking about her weight/body image. But his total meltdown about the cheating accusations, as well as his 180 degree tantrum turning it all around on Raquel, was awful. Watching it made me so sad for Raquel! You know they've gone through this scene multiple times, and then Jax just standing in the background shaking his head--yikes. Jax's talking head where he said "yeah, I've been accused multiple times too...and they were all true"!!

-Loved the 80s style sitcom bit they included in the middle with the graphics and laugh track--so cute!
