I enjoyed how quickly everything is going to hell in a handbasket. Madeline’s bad choices all coming home to roost, and now I’m worried about her younger daughter. Crystal Fox as Bonnie’s kind-of-ominous mother was a standout, and for once I understand Nathan’s appeal (the way his voice cracked when he was talking to Bonnie was perfect).

That Kidman can act so much just with her vocal inflections is really something.

And someone please tell Renata not to say anything of substance over the prison phone line!!

what an episode!! going to hell in a handbasket indeed. and while Bonnie's mom has NOTHING on Mary-Louise she's still pretty toxic and kindy scary. this show (and Sharp Objects) really make me think a lot more about the toxic femininity that is another legacy of the patriarchy. so much damage, passed from generation to generation. excellent portrayals and acting all around. (seriously Meryl Streep is terrifying in this role)

Man, they really breeze past that line about Perry having a brother who died, huh?

I love the scene where Jane is being incredibly generous with Mary Louise despite the latter's outrageous behavior towards her, giving her hope there may be a relationship with Ziggy-- and then Mary Louise just cannot keep from pushing one more time. The way Mary Louise talks about wanting to crush or squelch certain ideas-- it should be disarming, maybe, that she is so clear about this, but it actually makes me ten times more scared of her. I can't recall another character I've seen that resembles her in that sense.

Yeah, like they breeze past Laura Dern's tablet being seized.

You can find a link to all the music used in Big Little Lies here. (Something I quite like about the show is how we sometimes see a shot or other reference that tells us what the track is within the show itself).
