RuPaul's Drag Race UK: Downton Draggy
October 18, 2019 11:55 AM - Season 1, Episode 2 - Subscribe

This week the queens’ acting skills are put to the test as they star in a sumptuous new comedy costume drama – Downton Draggy. Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams joins Michelle Visage and Graham Norton on the judging panel as another queen exits the competition.

At the start of the episode, the queens realised that the competition have officially begun. The Vivienne is asked to rank the girls from Top to Bottom. The Vivienne chose to be Top of the class and placed Scaredy Cat last at the bottom. In this plot twist, they were both declared the team leaders. This gives them the power to pick the teams for the week's maxi challenge which is to star in a sumptuous new comedy costume drama - Downton Draggy.

On the main stage, the category is 'Bond girl Glama-o-rama'. Team The Vivienne are declared the winners of the challenge and Baga is declared the overall challenge winner. Team Scaredy Cat is declared the losing team. Scaredy, Blu, and Cheryl are critiqued for severely lacklustre performances, while Divina and Crystal received mostly positive. Blu and Scaredy are placed in the bottom two. The pair then lipsync to "Venus" by Bananarama; Blu wins the lip sync and Scaredy is eliminated.

Is anyone watching this show?

I quite like it so far but was sad to see Scaredy Kat eliminated because I wanted to see more of her looks. But boy howdy was that a painful, painful, skincrawling lip sync. So bad.

I'm watching. It's an interesting contrast with the OG, which especially comes up a lot in Episode 3. Trying not to give impressions from an ep ahead; mostly I just remember that Gothy and Scaredy seemed like early cannon fodder from the start.

I would love to see some US-UK crossover in All Stars; maybe that would make it worth watching again when instead they just try to shoehorn an "all-star" season between each regular one.

Ooh, yeah, that is a fantastic idea. Throw in some Canadians too, once the first RPDR Canada season is over.

I actually signed up for WOW Presents+ in order to watch this season. It definitely feels like a fresher version of the show and I'm enjoying it so far.

I really liked Scaredy in the Meet The Queens video, but they definitely weren't seasoned enough to go far in this competition.

At the moment my tops are The Vivienne, Baga, and Divina.

Baga needs to be called out if all her runway looks are celebrity impersonations - they've been good, but that may bring up the "We aren't seeing the real you" issue that Michelle Visage tends to point out. It bodes well for the snatch game however.

The lip-snycs so far have not been particularly memorable.

I'm rather enjoying it, actually. It's very fresh and the differences in the culture between US and UK drag are really noticeable to me. They aren't as full on viciously competitive in US, for a start, and are less focused on asthetic - there's a lot of the old panto style tradition of female impersonation going on, rather than just the US queer scene genderplay. If you get me.
