Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: The Bob Murray Dance Number
November 11, 2019 2:24 AM - Season 6, Episode 29 - Subscribe
Oliver discusses frivolous SLAP suits, re-tells the history of his legal spats with the owner of the 'largest private coal company in the country', and ends up with a spectacular "Eat Shit, Bob" dance number (Starting at 29:00)
I'm so glad you got this post up!! I just watched the clip and the musical piece was utterly amazing.
I found the majority of the show quite serious, but it laid the groundwork perfectly for the ending musical number.
I've always loved John Oliver for speaking truth to power. This piece truly shows his values. So thankful HBO supports him. Their whole team did such a good job with this.

Has anyone seen a transcription of the lyrics? Looked after the show aired and there was bupkis online. And the HBO closed captioning on that segment was laughably bad.

Yes, found it in the comments on YouTube. Not sure about the legality of pasting it here?

That musical number was potentially the most glorious "fuck you" I have ever seen.
I've also always loved that John Oliver is so willing to sing, despite not having much of a singing voice.

M.: a kind soul on reddit has posted them!
Pretty sure it’s okay to link to that... right?

Broadway musical fans may recognize the interrupting lawyer as Brian d'Arcy James.

"He doesn't like Tom Hanks" is seriously epic trolling. It's entirely possible not to like Tom Hanks. I understand completely how someone might object to "Bosom Buddies". Good luck in court, Bob Murray.

I knew I recognized that lawyer--thank you for that!
I was honestly amazed that he sang as well as he did. Truly impressive; that is so hard to do when it's not your comfort zone. He is a true performer.
It was so great to hear that they could finally talk about the lawsuit, and that they won. But I cracked up when John mentioned how very tired they make the lawyers. Sad to see, as well, that my state was one of those without anti-SLAPP laws. Considering we're the home of Amazon and Microsoft, I guess it shouldn't be surprising.

The person who said "I want to do this verse as a barbershop quartet of squirrels" is a genius. But the person who said, "Fine, but the bass is going to be a ventriloquist-dummy-squirrel" is dangerous.

Bob Murray, who had filed what is regarded by many to be nuisance "SLAPP" suits against reporters, and Last Week Tonight, for their reporting of the horrible actions of him and his company, has died. Mr. Nutterbutter could not be reached for comment, but you can probably guess what it would be.
