I have to say, a lot of the luster goes off these guys for me when they stop coming across like upward-punching underdogs and start being sore winners. When they singled out one of their big fans they'd met for owning a Warren pin and directly said "fuck you" to him on the show, that was just about the limit for me.

if you go up to the hosts of chapo trap house wearing a bunch of liz warren gear and tell them you're a huge fan of their podcast, i'm really not sure what else you would expect?

I guess if it were me I would expect not to have two people who I’d looked up to act nice to me in person then go back to their 120,000 listeners and say “fuck you” a bunch of times about me, because I failed their purity test by acknowledging the one other M4A candidate in the field by wearing a button instead of by making hissing noises.

i would prefer not to get into this but in the chapos eyes (and mine) elizabeth warren is no longer a viable M4A candidate. besides that, the "purity test" is a myth - this is a primary, the whole point is to suss out the differences between candidates, and the hosts have made it plenty clear who they support and why.

anyway i thought there was a lot to love in this episode, their attitudes were honestly inspiring, i don't really care if the hosts are mean to people because it's chapo trap house and that's kind of what they do.

Sure, I hear that. Although the phrase “purity test” might have a more specific meaning in this context than I realized, because I just meant, in a general sense, what the hosts are willing to tolerate—which they’re publicly dragging that fan in order to make perfectly clear. On reflection I guess I’ve spent 100+ episodes hoping that Chapo was something just... a few degrees off from what it actually is. Sounds like that might just be me.
