November 1, 2020 8:33 AM - Subscribe

On the cusp of retirement, an eccentric mortician (Clancy Brown) recounts several of the strangest stories he's encountered in his long career, but things take a turn for the phantasmagorical when he learns that the final story - is his own.

Streaming in the US on Shudder.

This was good fun. The only segment that was perfunctory and lacked depth was the first one... which Sam called the mortician out on right away.

The second segment (exploding peen!) and the last were the best, but there were no stinkers, which is rare for a horror anthology film.

Two quick notes: the IMDb text about the last story being his own is bullshit.

Also, the only thing I had trouble with was the jumbled time setting. I know that's a trend in horror after It Follows, but with 95% of the film looking like 1957, the anachronisms are a bit jarring, not cheeky.

So a negative spoiler, then? You think you've been told what's going to happen but in fact something completely different happens?

Basically I will watch and enjoy anything with Clancy Brown.

I liked how consistent this was, but I did think that the first one was a pretty insubstantial tale, and it doesn't make it all that better when she points that out. The middle two dragged a bit, for me. Overall, though, a pretty good anthology.
