This takes the rhythms of zombie apocalypse movies and makes them PG-13 and lighthearted by replacing the undead with giant bugs and lizards and such. Our tween loved it and it was a fun use of 100-ish minutes.

I liked it quite a bit. But, I thought it would have been a better movie if it didn't end with him smooching his love interest. I think it was a more compelling story where she was like dude, just not into you like that

Yeah, I more or less agree they shouldn't have backtracked to the romance.

Although they really ended with him saying, "This is great but I really have to get back and help my family." And then it's implied she'll take her colony to the mountains as he did with his.

I did read that the movie has done very well on VOD, earning back its modest budget back pretty easily in an atmosphere with less competition than is maybe typical. Maybe they'll make a sequel.

Watched this tonight with our 11 year old and we all loved it-exciting, suspenseful but not inappropriate for him, and a different twist on the apocalyptic monster movie. Recommend :)
