The Alienist: Ex Ore Infantium

One year after the events of the first season, Sara Howard, John Moore, and Dr. Laszlo Kreizler try to prevent the execution of a mother accused of murdering her missing newborn daughter, and then, along with city detectives Lucius and Marcus Isaacson, become involved in the search for the abducted infant daughter of a visiting Spanish dignitary.

This show certainly doesn't shy away from grisly moments. In this episode alone we see an execution by electric chair and a dead baby with nightshade dribbling from its mouth.

I don't know if I buy the image of Sara lashing her horse through the streets of New York like a bat out of hell. I mean, it's very in character for her, but I think she would have taken a cab.

John's fiancée annoys me, but that probably means she won't stay the course.

I haven't read The Angel of Darkness, but I understand it's set in the 1920s. I don't blame the show runners for setting it in the 1890s, just after the events of the first book, though. It would be a shame to waste such young, attractive leads by aging them thirty years.
