We always thought that episode 420 would be about the funny weed number. Instead, we're using it to mark 4/20, the date we say goodbye to Yahoo! Answers, a bad website that we will miss very much. I've had a bit of a break from the McElroy Podcast Universe this year but dipped back in for this episode and I'm very glad I did. Justin's reaction to Griffin's bit about retiring the entire show is a mood I can relate to. Probably best that it isn't the year to zag on 'em.

It's not the worst idea

Honestly, that made me flash back to so many metatalks when they talked about it.

I feel like the last handful of eps have been really pretty good, and this one seemed like worth reviving the posts for -- 420 was always supposed to be this big ep, but having it be the shutdown of Yahoo Answers plus still ~ongoing everything~ definitely feels appropriate.

I'm not versed in the current McElroy discourse, other than the couple times Travis has stepped in it recently and the ongoing TAZ disappointments, but both you and Justin seem to have something in mind. Is it just the perception that the quality has dropped off since 2016, and especially over the quarantine? Or is it something more specific than that?

Oh, I'm good with the podcast! I meant that there's been a number of calls in state-of-the-site metatalks over the last year-ish about "maybe we should retire the site" and it reminded me of that. I think Justin is feeling it kinda keenly lately, I have noticed that too. I don't know how much of that is a bit and how much is real.

Feels like they're so tired of doing the show that the idea of simply answering slightly more reader questions than they used to is too horrible to even mention. In which case ok because the show really doesn't work for me without those. This cliff hanger really got to me though. Emotionally effective.
