Suspecting a psychic link between Michael and Jamie, psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) joins forces with Sheriff Ben Meeker (Beau Starr) and attempts to stop Michael's latest rampage.

Written and directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard. Previously, Othenin-Girard had been co-writer/co-director of the Swiss/UK production After Darkness which was a horror/thriller about two siblings, one of whom is a dangerous former asylum patient.

The first 45 minutes of this one are pretty strong, and Danielle Harris is a very sympathetic protagonist, but that dunderheaded action movie ending with the mysterious “Man in Black” marks a true nadir for the franchise (the first of several comparably low points to come.)

Is it possible that Dr. Loomis is the real immortal monster?

Scattered thoughts:

-Screenplay by Donald Kaufman, feels like.
-The cinematography is back to being cinematic. I'm not saying it's in Carpenter/Cundey league, but you don't feel like it's an episode of an 80's syndicated cop show or some shit, either. The trademark POV stuff is back.
-I love the bit where Loomis scares a doberman into whimpering.
-Worst mask in the series.
-I really remembered it as the hermit helping Michael a la Bride of Frankenstein, not Michael killing him straightaway
-Making Loomis a more central character was their best move here.

Really I'm mostly mad they had Michael Myers drive that car. I guess he drove in the first one, but it still feels like he should just stalk slowly from place to place or catch the occasional ride from cops or paramedics who think they have him under control.
