- It's the 90s! It's a particular moment in America when you can show Italian Americans being worried that they are still too ethic for mainstream white culture. The landscape of white/ethnic status is ever-changing, and every snapshot in that timeline is fascinating and maddening to me.
- WHY IS CHRISTOPHER SUCH A NUMBSKULL!? I'm laughing and crying.
- Relatedly, why is Dr. Melfi's ex-husband such a dork? Oh well, at least they take it to family therapy.

Gangster movie reference: in Goodfellas, Michael Imperioli plays a waiter named "Spider" who gets shot in the foot by Joe Pesci's character; here he gets to return the favor to the donut shop clerk.

Also, the first appearance of Joseph R. Gannascoli in the series, as "Gino," the random dude in the donut shop. He'll be back in S2 playing a different role.
