More confusion: so... Councilor Medarda is the disgraced child of a powerful family elsewhere in the world and she got on the Council how? I like her mother as a character OK, there's some interestung tension there, but this raises some real questions about how Piltover even works. Do you just buy your way onto the Council?

Do you just buy your way onto the Council? Sort of. It also helps to be of noble birth and/or a high ranking academic. I suspect Mel didn't show up "in disgrace", though - she's the younger child of a powerful foreign leader, and as far as they knew had her mother's full support.
