Resolving to achieve professional success without compromising her ethics, Lucy embarks on a ruthless game of one-upmanship against cold and efficient nemesis Joshua, a rivalry that is complicated by her growing attraction to him.
Yep, I watched it because I'm a big fan of the novel by Sally Thorne. The movie was…well listen, it's not gonna win any awards, but I found myself smiling through the whole thing. And in 2021? Hey, I'll take it.
Also I really enjoyed Damon Daunno as Danny.

The book was cute, and I also had no idea they were doing a movie.

The movie is pretty faithful to the book, which is nice, except the book was careful to be very vague about what city these two people who are executive assistants at a publishing company and who each have their own apartments live in. The movie places them in NYC, and constantly reminds you of that with establishing shots in between scenes in their huge apartments in which they live by themselves, which shatters all suspension of disbelief and also makes me despise them.

Yeah, cosmic owl, I remember getting halfway through the book and thinking "where are we??" which I think was a function of Thorne being Australian yet not wanting the book to explicitly be set there.

Hah, thank god I wasn't just missing obvious clues about where it was set. I read that she was Australian but the setting didn't seem to work, it seemed vaguely New-York-ish but not quite. I like a well-observed setting so this did bug me.
