The Besties: Fortnite Got Buckwild When We Weren't Looking

Direct episode link since FanFare doesn't love the feed. We like to think of ourselves as four cool dads who have their finger on the pulse of what's hip with young gamers. That's why, in the year of our lord 2022, we're spending a whole episode discussing Fortnite, a game that has gone COMPLETELY off the rails in the past few years. Other  media discussed include: Mario Paint, Illusion of Gaia, General Chaos, Haunting, Some Baby Mario Game Russ Can't Remember, How To With John Wilson, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Keys and Kingdoms

On the one hand, I understand the impulse for games journalists to talk about silently massive games like Fortnite or Roblox or Minecraft, but I'd much rather listen to them find a new game that I've never heard of than listen to them talk about a game that I'm quite familiar with. Nobody needs to get sold on Fortnite at this point.

On, I believe, the Nextlander Podcast they were joking about The Rock's announcement that he's gonna be in a new video game movie and throwing out ideas it could potentially be. One of them suggested Fortnite and they all laughed, but little do they know The Rock is already in Fortnite as a named character.

Well, about 80% of the hundreds of episodes from the last decade fit your criteria, so that's good!

I think you may be generalizing your personal experience a bit too far here.

I'm exactly the person they describe in the episode: a millenial gamer who tried Fortnite when it came out and was just a pubg clone, got turned off by the whole "building" mechanic, and never dipped back in / kept up with the game at all.

Listening to this episode alerted me to the fact that apparently the game is totally different from what it was back then? Or at least has added a bunch of new modes or whatever? Regardless, I walked away stoked to check out fortnite. Unfortunately there's some weird bug happening with my switch and I'm having trouble re-installing it.
