A series of essays by two noted left of center personalities in the South (Frye Gaillard and Cynthia Tucker) that looks at what went wrong in the US, and how we got to a place in the county where 40% of the electorate are flat out racists.
Hint - they were always there.
It's a short read looking at Jim Crow, Reagan and the rise of the Republican party, the relationship between evangelical churches and the GOP, and Trump (of course). They try to find some reason for optimism, but I didn't finish the book feeling optimistic.
