Mystery Science Theater 3000: MUNCHIE
May 27, 2022 7:13 PM - Season 13, Episode 4 - Subscribe

"Roger Corman presents..." "Munchie just moved in... There goes the neighborhood." "Magical. Mystical. Munchie!" a kid beset by bullies and the school principal (who hates him for some reason) opens a mysterious box and inside is a dead-faced animatronic puppet with the voice of Dom DeLuise. While a sequel to Munchies, there are no horror elements of this movie, other than the stark horror of the puppet's construction. Reputedly this was a very difficult movie for the MST guys to write for. Jonah and his bots riff this one, but he has a conversation with Emily, and Emily and her bots have a couple of segments before and after the movie. Premiered on the Gizmoplex on May 27, 2022.

This was painful even with the riffing. I laughed a few times, but I can see why the writers had trouble with this one. How did this movie attract so many biggish names? Were they already on a downward trajectory by then?

Oof. Yeah, this one hurt. And, yes, all the name actors in this were kinda in the weeds at this point in their careers.

My first thought seeing Munchie for the first time was Chuck. E Cheese, which in turn reminded me of "Willy's Wonderland", which I saw very recently. Then all I could think of was Nicholas Cage beating the shit out of Munchie with a broken mop handle.

Now this is the kind of stinker I shelled out Kickstarter bucks for. I can't believe I hadn't heard of this movie before now.

I yearn for the easy watchability of Mac and Me.

Between Munchies wardrobe choices nodding to both Andrew Dice Clay and Gen Norman Schwarzkopf, the whole magnum opus is a ‘90s love letter.
