Tallypress Review: 6 Reasons You Should Watch The Much Anticipated K-Drama Our Blues On Netflix

NME review: people can be unhappy in the happiest of places -- "South Korea’s Jeju Island is one of the country’s most famous vacation spots. Something about the sprawling sea and sunny weather almost guarantees a happy disposition. Yet, as Our Blues shows us, people can be unhappy in the happiest of places. The problem with anthologies like Our Blues is that they often overshoot. In their ambition to tell multiple stories, they never really give just one time to breath and stretch its wings. Often, these different stories merge to spark an epiphany, but even those are often flimsy and superficial. Fortunately, you won’t find that on this omnibus of romances – at four episodes in, one cannot help but appreciate its visual novel-style format. We might have been introduced to most of the characters and their pains, but Our Blues respects its characters and their multifarious stories by neatly dividing them into chapters, each taking its time to dive into and unfurl their life, motivations, memories and heartbreaks."

But Why Tho? A Geek Community Review - ‘Our Blues’ Hits Every Emotional Note: "It takes a lot of finesse to pull off a story that spans a large ensemble cast, and that’s exactly what Netflix Original Our Blues has. Directed by Kim Kyu-Tae and written by No Hee-Kyung. The series follows a group of people through their lives on Jeju Island, connecting them to each other through the past and present.....Our Blues accomplishes a sweeping and beautiful story without sacrificing character growth or revelations. With such a large cast, it’s truly amazing how each and every character feels dynamic and complete. This is one drama series that is well worth the watch."

I hadn't looked too closely at the cast/crew credits on MyDramaList until I was putting this post together, didn't realize Our Blues was written by Noh Hee Kyung who wrote 'Dear My Friends'. She sure knows how to make me cry, ye gods, my heart is silly putty in her hands.

This one snuck up on me and I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did! I'm usually not as much a fan of these kind of omnibus/anthology plots, and shouty angry men usually upset me and I prefer not to watch, but wow did I get invested in most of the stories. The last 4-5 episodes were so moving.
