For some reason, this episode reminded me of Wizards.

This episode had leaked a few months ago (it was shown in Brazil?)

It's a great addition to Adventure Time's mythos. Hope that comet makes another appearance.

Is it? I thought it was just Ice King's dream. A premonition of the impending comet, but still a dream.

I think it was ambiguous about whether it was a premonition or the crown dreaming about its own past. Maybe it was both?

The thing about "the wearer's wish" made me think about how Simon used the crown to keep him and Marcy safe despite its effects.

Which reminds me, this ep made me want to go back and watch the one where they go back in time and meet his fiancé. Does anyone remember which one that is?

It's the episode called "Betty."

I'm pretty sure this was meant to be both the origin of the Ice King's crown and foreshadowing of the comet's return. (But not, as I imagine we all spent most of the episode thinking, the origin of Gunter the penguin, who is apparently not really named Gunter at all.)

There sure are a lot of crappy dads in this season, huh? Crappy dads and their sons trying to make peace with their crappy dads in their own damaged little hearts. Finn and Kim Kil Whan more or less succeeded in integrating their dad stuff, but Dino-Gunter just became a horrific parody of his own "father"...which is sure a thing that happens. Poor Dino-Gunter.

I don't think that whoever puts it on now gets to express their deepest wish. It's locked in on the deepest wish of the first person who put it on: Gunther's wish to become an Ice Wizard like Evergreen. That's why Simon turns into a version of Evergreen when he puts it on (and so does Finn in Finn the Human).

It's interesting that in Finn the Human Simon used his ice powers to stop the giant comet-like bomb from falling.

I like that Adventure Time has an elemental system now (well, aside from the Corn/Psionic/Nice/Swamp factions of Card Wars, but that's fictional within the show). Fire, Ice, and Candy are all obvious, but Slime hasn't been given much prominence. Any of the other princess domains might have done as well... why not Lumpyspace or Breakfast? But Ice and Fire are opposites, and Slime makes a good counter to Candy.

I guess I always assumed that the nuclear holocaust is what caused candy to mutate and magic to become a part of Earth and turn it into Ooo, but this was set long before human society ever arose. (In retrospect, of course there had to be magic before the bombs fell, because Simon found his crown and Marceline was wandering the Earth.)

What this episode really makes me crave is the moment where Slime Princess discovers her latent rapping powers.

I watched it again and I see this now.

It's odd when we get episodes like these, because for the average fan of an average show, one's immediate response is, "Wait, where's Finn? Jake?! Why is that thing with Jake's eyes meowing?!! This blows!" But, with Adventure Time, it just more icing of awesomeness.

I saw this episode as an origin story for the Ice King's crown and so its memory was invading the Ice King's dreams.

I concur, poor Dino-Gunther. Gotta appreciate the giant tree trunks.

The interesting moment definitely was the sense of the elemental leaders that their lives were not worth saving compared to the risks of creating the ability to save them. Huh.

Not bad, not bad.

The giant Tree Trunks confused me. Where did that thing come from? Also: why did Nina look like Jake?

And did the fact that the first comet was green and the second comet was blue mean anything? Related to slime and ice, perhaps?

Mysteries....

I like that Ice King taped a little picture of a turtle above his bed.

For some reason, the turtle and tiger pics really squicked me out.

For some reason it really shocked me when Dino-Gunther slapped the cat. I actually gasped out loud. But of course it fits his character perfectly, his father figure doles out nothing but insults and violence to him. Very sad.

The giant Tree Trunks looking thing was the solidified lava dog that Evergreen stole the gems from. Nina looks like Jake because they are both awesome and companiony.

Hey, it totally is! That's why it had Xs in place of its eyes; the gems were its eyes.

I wonder if that thing still exists in some form and will want its eyes back from Ice King's crown.

Have we ever seen Urgence Evergreen before? I feel like he looks familiar. Maybe in one of the Prismo episodes?
