I made a useful discovery with this episode: If you start watching Happy Valley as it's broadcast but you're 5 minutes late switching it on, just miss the first 5 mins and watch it as broadcast, don't go to iplayer and watch it from the start. Because that's what I did, and it then put me in a frame of mind to just keep stopping and rewinding every time I missed something. That slowed it right down and took all the urgency out and is not to be recommended. So that's a good life lesson.

That aside: Stew. Is all I have to say. The writing and the delivery, both just perfect.

How on earth are they going to wrap everything up in two hours, after this one? I was rooting for the pharmacist but the way he has switched from “innocent in over his head” to… something else, means I’m not any more. The character doesn’t ring true, for me.

Episode 5 for me tonight, ready for the actual broadcast of the last one tomorrow. Might have some time off from TV, after that.
