Coming-of-age mixed with political awakening in Ceaușescu's Romania. The teens are believable and presented with a keen eye and respect.

And it's Romania, so you know it's bleak!

That surely was depressing! I found the first half un-focused, drab, noisy, and anxiety-filled. But when the local Stasi burst in, everything changed.

The first half spends most of its energy establishing the location/era in a way that is supposed to be... maybe not nostalgic, but recognizable and authentic for Romanians. If you have no connection to that, I can definitely see how it might drag a little. I found it pretty interesting.
