Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) (2024)

Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Knuckles (Idris Elba), and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow (Keanu Reeves), a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.
Bad run for bad movies chez praemunire; I didn't finish this one either. A late 90s/early naughts time capsule (it's an adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2), and not in a great way. In trying to drop entertaining little cameos and jokes for the parents, it somehow became even more awkward.
It made north of 300M already, though, so I think we can expect to see #4.

Hee, yeah, I thought about posting a link to that interview but thought it might be too mean.

My brother and his ten year-old had a blast with this one, but I enjoyed Carrey being frank. You gotta work sometimes.

I could take or leave the animated stuffies beating on each other, but the dance sequence with Jim Carrey, Jim Carrey, and I presume some body doubles and CGI was one of the most entertaining things I've seen on the big screen this year.

My 11-year-old and his friends really enjoyed it.

My 11-year-old son and his similar-aged cousins loved it too.
(The cousins didn't bother to come with us for Transformers One and the Wild Robot though we invited them)
Sonic 3 wasn't abysmal, Jim Carrey's double-act was entertaining, but it's pretty shallow and flashy by comparison. But kids definitely don't appreciate the best kids stuff. I think their actual enjoyment in the moment is closely correlated to just the number of bangs, flashes and bright colours on screen at any one time.
My son coudn't actually remember if he'd seen Sonic 1: he knows he's seen Sonic movies twice but wasn't sure if he'd seen them both or Sonic 2 twice. So I think pure flashiness doesn't stick in their minds.

Everyone I've talked to liked this a lot, including me! This thread is a really weird read so far.
