Andor: Season 2 trailer
February 24, 2025 1:14 PM - Season 2, Episode 1 - Subscribe
Not shocking, but the poobahs at Disney seem to have looked at serious, gritty, written for adults Andor and decided to kill it by making it a fun, "action-packed!" blow em up show.
It always amazes me when a studio releases a trailer or makes an announcement or whatever, and then certain people in fandom go out of their way to find the absolute worst interpretation of what they were shown.
You do realize that how a trailer is edited doesn’t necessarily reflect on what the final product will be like, right?

I don't think anyone expects it to be a "fun, action-packed, blow 'em up show," to be honest. Change the music choice and mentally lay over the music from season 1's trailer, and they're not that far apart. It definitely is kind of packed that in this trailer, I'll give you that.
What Season 2 is going to be is really a four movie representation of the creation of the Rebel Alliance. Season 1 ended with a violent protest against the Empire and that violence against the Empire is going to continue forward, but I'm speculating that there's going to be a hefty level of discourse on the political side. Some theorize that we've seen glimpses of the Ghorman Massacre, which is essentially the last straw for Mon Mothma and she transitions from senator to rebellion leader.
The season is going to be released over four weeks with three episodes per week, every three episode arc essentially a year between season 1 and Rogue One. If I had to guess, the last episode of Season 2 will end up with Andor leaving to go to the space station where we find him in the film hunting down information about a "planet killer."
Not everyone is going to make it to the other side, as Luthien noted, he is fighting for a sunrise that he will never see. Before that, he will be fighting viciously to pull together the Rebel Alliance and that means, collecting the rebels and war materiel needed for such a fight. I also expect that we might see growing conflict between rebel leaders, specifically Saw Gerrera and Mon Mothma, over how the rebellion should occur. We already saw this in Rebels, which has a timeline that mirrors Andor, fwiw. There will be arguments over what type of violence is necessary, and if casualties of non-fighting participants is acceptable in the pursuit of victory. (Saw famously attacked a social gala with a weapon that indiscriminately killed Imperials and civilians alike).

We are more than likely to see the Ghorman Massacre depicted on-screen this season. That’ll be a fun, action-packed, blow-em-up scene.

I have been arguing with my brother over text message about this, and it is possible that I am being the slightest bit overly cynical. However, given the amount of garbage produced under the aegis of this franchise, I don't feel my cynicism is entirely unwarranted.
I hope it's good. I really do, because the first season is some of the best political television I've seen in ages. The moral compromises that so many of the characters are forced to make - are in situations where they have no morally clean path forward - that's perfect. I never thought I would see that in a Star Wars property. Let's hope it continues.

This is a show about violence and resistance; a lot of people died in the first season and a lot of shit blew up. I wouldn’t expect less in the second season?
The only problems I had with this trailer are that I couldn’t see all of Mon Mothma’s sick outfit, and I couldn’t see all of Eedy Karn’s sick outfit, and I couldn’t see all of Syril Karn’s sick outfit, and I didn’t see B2EMO AT ALL.

Yeah, I'm with juv3nal. Tony Gilroy remains the show runner, and three of the four season 2 arcs were written by season 1 writers. I trust them to deliver a second season very much in line with the first.

I’m still gonna need someone to recut this with Run the Jewels instead of Steve Earle though.
Ahem.
My actual biggest concern is that they’re compressing the release timeline instead of letting the show breathe—I mean, waiting fifteen days made the prison storyline pop in a way that I’m not sure it could if it all aired at once.
On the other hand I’m not sure this show would survive 12 full weeks of this administration, so I get it.

I was watching a Q&A with the director and many of the actors from Office Space the other day, and Mike Judge talks about how at one point the marketing folks sent him something like 14 trailers, and he was like "well I don't like 7 and 13" and then when speaking with the marketers they began the meeting by saying "we're leaning toward 7 and 13." I bring this up for no reason at all.

Lots of trailers have weird songs that they're cut around. It's waay too early to worry about this.
Let editors edit and evoke outrage and vitriol! Hah lol.
Let the actual show - the axule show - air before bashing it, eh?

I've seen this concern expressed a bit and I think it's a valid one. Incidentally, given the amount of free time I have in my life, the likelihood of me watching all three episodes in one sitting isn't very high either. I may need to abandon social media to an extant, though, as the propriety of when to discuss spoilers and so on is going to be pushed to the brink with these episodes.

Maybe so! I mean, Theodore Sturgeon observed over seventy years ago "that [science fiction] is indeed ninety-percent crud, but that also – Eureka! – ninety-percent of everything is crud. All things – cars, books, cheeses, hairstyles, people, and pins are, to the expert and discerning eye, crud, except for the acceptable tithe which we each happen to like." And I know that it's become sadly fashionable lately for people to displace their disappointment in Recent Events onto venerable SF franchises. But: You don't know that from the trailer. No, you don't. It's not unreasonable that, given the mixed reception (to put it mildly) of some recent iterations of this franchise that TPTB might emphasize the kicksplodey aspects of the show, especially given that the franchise literally began with a space battle. That's how they get the butts in the bleachers.
At the very least, you can put whatever misgivings you have about the trailer below the fold. Maybe I'm just being a silly goose, but some of us would like something to look forward to right now.

I don't think TV threads have the same issues as movie threads—dupes are rare but not unprecedented (it happens with stuff like Bake-off occasionally), and we definitely can do "Books Included" / "Show Only" posts (the instigating use case for Fanfare having been Game of Thrones). All the same, I flagged the post to relabel it Season 1/ Episode 13.
We also may as well discuss here whether we want to go with four episode posts for season 2 because if we try to do that in Fanfare Talk it won't get any traction.

I mean, I took away the opposite? It blows my mind that a trailer for a show encouraging people to rise up against an oppressive government and featuring a song by Steve [intensifier] Earle called "The Revolution Starts Now" can be interpreted as watering down its themes because of the recent election. What did you expect to see in a ninety-second trailer? A lightsaber with "This machine kills fascists" engraved on it?

There really isn't a media juggernaut schedule for Star Wars. TV show wise, this is it in live action until Ahsoka season two hits, maybe in 2026? Movie release times have become a joke, but it seems the The Mandalorian and Grogu movie is likely to come out next year. If only because that series makes money for Disney and it's essentially a replacement for a fourth season.
Beyond that and maybe Young Jedi Adventures, which has been successful, there isn't a lot of plans on the Lucasfilm plate of beans for us to examine and figure out. Star Wars Celebration is happening this spring, so we will get announcements. BUT, a lot of things get announced at Star Wars Celebrations. Andor Season Two is probably the last announced thing that has come to fruition for the most part.
There is however, the Marvel side of things. They have the Fantastic Four movie coming out in June. But then, Disney+ is cooling on pumping those out, too. Hard to say really.
It's very clear that Gilroy likes to structure this show in three episode arcs, so perhaps he feels they'll have a bigger impact, as essentially a movie release per week. That is just my speculation, though.

I am still looking forward to this; I expect that the trailer is aimed at a different audience than those of us hooked on Andor's first season. My biggest concern is that Disney will feel a "need" to have tie in references to Rebels, Ashoka, Acolyte, or whatever other Star Wars movie & show. Forget about the show having time to breathe because of the release schedule; will they let it be its own thing without Jedi and Sith coming into it?
In terms of the release schedule, I kind of like it coming in 3 episode chunks; the 1st season was held together by three-episode story arcs, and I think releasing them that way will make it more coherent as a result.

Objectively, the Ghost and Hera Syndulla (as well as Chopper) are already placed at Yavin in Rogue One, so it's not beyond the realm to think there may be an additional cameo or smaller role for them in the last three episodes at least for this season. Based on the nature of the show, I honestly don't think they would have much of an appearance. Saw will definitely have a role because his faction has a key role in the formation of the rebellion and resistance against the Empire, in part because it offers a far more brutal and violent response than what Mon Mothma argues for.
It gets complicated with Ahsoka, which of course, really is a sequel series to Rebels, but live action. We know that Ahsoka played the role of an informant and in the shadows operative, so much so that her code name "Fulcrum" became adopted by other agents, like Cassian Andor. In the bigger storyline, Ahsoka disappears after season two, removing her as a Jedi present during the main part of the galactic civil war. BUT, that could mean she makes an appearance in the first round of episodes, presumably. I don't think it's likely, but she could. Same is true for Kallus later on. Our other resident Jedi all stay attached to Lothal for most of the time frame for Andor, so I don't think we need to worry about them popping up either.
I think Andor also slides toward using human characters versus alien characters as a means to ground and enable identifying opportunities for viewers, too. So overall, I think the chances are slim for the above characters from the different shows to appear.

Also, echoing @bcwinters on the sick costumes. I still regard it as an outrage that Andor wasn't even NOMINATED for a costume design Emmy on the strength of Mon Mothma's wardrobe ALONE.
Still, it's a little depressing to realise just how politically relevant this trailer is...

Yes! Just rewatched the first three episodes (which it was how it originally released - three together) and the slow build to the action of the third episode is just masterful - the acting, the dialogue, the cinematography, the set design (Ferrix deserves an Emmy all on its own), the editing, the music, the direction... And we still haven't met two of the most important characters! There is not a wasted moment. If you haven't seen it and have any interest in thought-provoking fiction of ANY kind, please do yourself a favour and watch it.

A nice add-on - A Tony Gilroy Live with contributions from Adra Arjona, Genevieve O'Reilly, and Duncan Pow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qP3CnChXgk - they are clearly ramping up the publicity, and if the comments in these interviews are anything to go by, we don't need to worry about Andor 2 being dumbed down. I especially loved Tony Gilroy's call out to the work of Michael Wilkinson in costume design.

Maarva’s speech has definitely got to be up there. I’m currently on a rewatch and I was surprised to realise after 9 episodes that ALL of the great monologues- Maarva, Luthen, Nemik, Kino - are still to come!

Loved all the great speeches, but there is something about Luthen’s that I like the most. Maybe it’s the fact that the enigmatic figure lets the mask slip a little; maybe it’s just Skarsgard’s delivery.

Luthien's "I fight for a sunrise I will never see," line just plows directly into my heart. Ooof, what a great line.

New trailer out.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm wondering if this season sees Dedra question her allegiances while Karn goes all in on the Empire.

It definitely appears like she's getting a motivational speech from Vader. At the end of last season, she seemed a bit shaken up when confronted with reality on the ground versus sitting back on Coruscant in her office. Could she be pushed to become a new mole in ISB? Maybe?

Hm. Interesting; I didn't interpret it as a force choke, just Dedra feeling pressured and overwhelmed. But it probably is Vader.
Kind of hoping it isn't, because I don't want anything that feels like fan service here.

Now I am very worried about my boo, Brasso.
It will be great to see Mon finally discovering her backbone. Being a po-faced do-gooder simply won't cut it anymore.
Count me among those who don't want to see any Force usage in Season 2. The stories of ordinary beings are so much more gripping than those of space wizards. It's a shame Tony Gilroy won't do any more Star Wars--he's a strong argument for Disney putting the franchise in the hands of people who don't care about Star Wars.

Agreed on no Force users - or at least, no flashy Jedi ones. And please, resist the temptation to roll on Vader or Palpatine, unless it's maybe off-camera reaction shots. The characters in Andor feel too real and vital to have the plastic Big Bads stealing limelight and oxygen. Although am I mistaken - is that Vader's TIE fighter Cassian is nicking? Maybe one more steeped in the technical lore can comment.
Kleya's tear - for whom? She is a very tough cookie, so probably someone close?
Also, Luthen gets kudos from Variety - https://swtorstrategies.com/2025/02/stellan-skarsgards-luthen-rael-in-andor-lands-on-varietys-greatest-tv-performances-list.html; but it could have been any of half-a dozen folk really.

Somebody more knowledgeable than I has suggested it's a prototype TIE, based on some deep cut knowledge of the spaceships of the SW Universe.

If the internet is correct, then it's a TIE Avenger, which is the next gen from Vader's TIE Advance and the predecessor for the TIE Defender. I should have known this from having spent hours playing the game, TIE Fighter, where the model was introduced.

I wasn't sure about the 1st trailer's music but it really grew on me, and it's just one trailer people who are all up in arms about it should chill out.
Skarsgard’s could be reading the ingredients list on my cereal box and I'm sure it would be riveting. He's that good.
I'm am pumped for this like I haven't been for a show in a while, I just wished it wasn't as connected to current political climate.
No force users and resistance missions against the Empire describes all the StarWars RPG campaigns we did when I was in college (before the prequels), so this slots RIGHT IN with me. This is classic Star Wars.
I really hope they keep the jedis & classic characters to fleeting appearances, the fact they're not in helps me pretend this exist in a different universe than all the other dreadful Disney shows, and I always mostly disliked the Filoniverse part of SW so I pray the intersection is minimal. Even The Mandalorian kinda lost its spark when it linked with all those stories.
Can we start a GoFundMe to bribe Gilroy to redo the prequels as long serie? I give credits to Lucas for bring all of this to life, but the writing on Andor is just SO SO SO GOOD I want his version of the prequels.

If you can stomach Jedi, the animated Clone Wars show which takes place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith does a pretty good job of getting more of that "this is why Palpatine succeeds" aspect of turning the Republic into the Empire, even touching on taking over the judicial and banking systems. It also helps navigate how the Clone Wars help corrupt the Jedi in a degree that they become so focused on fighting the war, they cannot spot a Sith Lord cruising to victory down the street from their temple.
There's even an episode where Padmé secretly works out a peace deal to end the war only to find out the political leader on the other side of the war, whom she had worked with, is murdered and framed in way to stoke the war rather than end it.

The Star Wars podcast A More Civilized Age (main content: Clone Wars and Rebels watch-casts, plus Andor, the prequel films, and some other media) did a skip list for the Clone Wars. There's a lot of fluff in there you can skip, but some good episodes too.

So how are we going to handle the release schedule? Individual posts for each episode or one post for each block of three episodes?

I think it makes sense to post by episode, because as avid a fan I am, I just do not have the time to sit down and watch three 45 minute episodes back to back. I can see myself watching one, maybe two, tops, and then popping up over here. The limitations are that those who watch all three will probably gravitate toward the third episode of every release, and the content for the third episode will feel more encompassing of all three than just the third episode.
Perspective wise, after this month of releases, the show will exist as individual episodes floating out there, so people won't feel the need to rush through three episodes at once because they dropped at the same time. So in the long run, it may make more sense to go with one episode per post.

I miss the days of (IIRC) midnight Disney+ episode drops in each timezone so I could watch it after breakfast while America was still asleep ;)

I’m in favor of one post per group, at least for tonight. Otherwise we’re going to wind up with a bunch of comments mostly spread over the first and third episodes.
Maybe list tonight’s group as “episode 3” so we can backfill 1&2 if there’s desire later?
If the three episodes wind up having distinct enough arcs we can a

We can always drop episode 3, but using myself for example, I don't know if I'll make it to three but would still like to talk about one or two whichever I get to tonight.
HONESTLY, Disney should have just dropped these as four separate Andor films because that's really how they're being presented and then we could just have a post for each movie.

I vote splitting them up too -- not everyone is willing/able to binge-watch weekly, and it'll make more sense for retroactive watchers as well. Don't want to discourage participation in earlier threads due to spoilers from later episodes!
