This Walter Salles moving drama was "voted by the Brazilian Film Critics Association as one of the greatest Brazilian movies of all time". It also was gave Fernanda Montenegro, the 'grande dame' of Brazilian theater, the first ever Brazilian nomination for 'Best Actress' in 1998.
