The Slap: Connie
March 13, 2015 12:36 PM - Season 1, Episode 5 - Subscribe

Connie deals poorly with her daddy issues by being nasty to her stepfather, and pushing her increasingly inexplicable crush on Hector. Her friend-who-is-a-guy behaves almost unbelievably well. He's the one who has photos of the titular slap.

This was one of my favorite episodes so far. It actually showed some decent effects of the slap on Connie's life, and all of the scenes not focused on Connie felt necessary and earned. Not sure why they bothered to set up a cliffhanger about whether the friend will show anyone the pictures or not. There's only like 3 eps left? Just get on with it.

Really liked the woman who played the judge. She was very judge-like with her "Cmon you idiots, stop wasting my time and sort this out yourself" approach.

Agreed. Connie's friend Richard behaved very honorably. I bet his pictures turn out to be essential evidence -- something like a picture of Hugo swinging his bat close to the other children or something that would impeach Connie or Hector's testimony. I bet he has to turn them over at court request.

Aisha's work as a plot device is not realistic: her work interrupts her family and social life an unbelievable amount for a GP. I know surgeons who never get interrupted like Aisha does.

I think the thing with Aisha is that she's working at somewhat newly opened free clinic and is the only GP on staff?? That has been explicitly said, but something like that is the only thing I could come up with for why her work/life balance is so off.
