The Ice King's princess obsession episodes squick me out a bit (though I otherwise like the character).

Yep, the show moves pretty quickly at establishing the Ice King as someone who is truly unpleasant to be around AND someone it's easy to pity. I like Finn's frustration at being unable to cut through any of his crazy bullshit: "I don't know how to help you!"

The Ice King's dream exchange ("What's wrong me?" "Hoooo, you're a sociopath!") is basically what first won me over to the series.
