That was a surprisingly emotional discussion.

I'm still a bit staggered by the climax of "Unbent" -- which was not helped at all by the shuddery "it happens every night" revelation near the beginning of this week's ep ("The Gift") -- and Joanna and Dave just sound utterly shellshocked here. I've got their take on "The Gift" waiting for me when I get home from work, and I'm expecting a similar reaction with that. Being a weekly TV podcaster is a double-edged sword: On one hand, you get to talk about things you love, but on the other you're pretty much locked into talking about them even when they're kind of awful.

I listened to the podcast the other day. Um... ugh.

To echo something Sparklemotion said in another thread, I realize I'm in a minority in that I'm okay with how Ramsay's rape of Sansa was handled. I think (so far) it works narratively and it's in line with what's been established. I've enjoyed previous Cast of Kings podcasts, but I really disliked Joanna's implication (whether it was intended or not) that if you're defending what happened to Sansa, then you're defending rape. (She kept repeating " don't email me saying it's not rape.") Well, what if I think it works in terms of the story? I resent it when people say that feeling this way makes me a bad person or a bad feminist, because I've gotten some of this on Twitter, and... to hell with that.

I think she was probably hearing from a lot of people who argued that it wasn't rape, I.e. that Sansa consented by marrying Ramsey.

Yep, there's still a non-zero number of people out there who think that marital rape doesn't exist. Some of them are in Congress.
