I have spent a lot of mental energy trying to figure out how they filmed the first 30 seconds of the musical dance number.

Once again, I'm thinking that Uncle Deadly is the best thing about the new series.

Bobo's crack about having an associate's degree was pretty good too, and it was nice to see Miss Piggy bust out the karate again. That felt a little more like old Piggy.

This episode fell very flat for me; the Fozzy plot was ugh, and they're going to the "Piggy feuds with a female guest" well way too often. I did like Rizzo's network of shady relatives, though.

Me too! At some points it looks like the two dancers holding Piggy might be puppeteering her, but then at others, not...

The Rizzo-Scooter storyline was the best part of the episode and could turn into a great regular background thing to go with.

It was good to see Fozzie's girlfriend again, but overall that story was kinda weak. But the back-and-forth between Pepe and Rizzo over Sean Penn/Champagne was the best bit of the ep. Also, I generally love the idea that Pepe, Rizzo and Gonzo are the writing staff.

LOVED Bobo's line about "I have an Associate's Degree" and Deadly's long sloooooow pump of caramel. I was never a big fan of either of these characters, but am starting to look forward to them each week.

I continue to not like where they have gone with Kermit and Piggy. They've lost a lot of their charm and appeal as characters.

Yeah, I thought that at first, but I've watched that same 30 seconds about 25 times now and it's obvious that they are NOT puppeteering her on repeat viewings.

And even if one of them was surreptitiously working the mouth, how on earth did they do the arm movements?

It's a truly magical 30 seconds that unless you're paying attention just goes right by because it doesn't occur at first to wonder "how is that pig singing and dancing?" because, of course, Muppets are real.

Am over the whole Piggy being jealous of female guest thing already.

For some reason Zoot with the sax walking behind Fozzie about made me pee my pants laughing. Somebody did a great job picking a song to make Fozzie have feels about...PLEASE LET THIS BE FORESHADOWING A CYNDI LAUPER APPEARANCE.

Well, honestly, Piggy being jealous of the female guest, or the male guest, or anyone really, is a trope of Muppets being on television since season 1 of The Muppet Show. I didn't find it surprising at all.

What I DID find surprising is that the writers took what was so amazing about last episode, the joy of the cast singing and performing, and managed to do an entire production number (with those astounding 30 seconds) that was entirely cynical. It was a brilliant number, but it didn't leave me feeling particularly full of warm fuzzies.

(I did LOL at the mike drop at the end.)

Oh I don't find it surprising at all. It's just getting used far too often as a plot device considering we are on ep 5. It's a show about Piggy's show...I'd just like to see Piggy actually own her own show and her own shit for once. Yeah part of Piggy is the insecurity but at least let her own that occasionally without having to rake everyone else over the coals.

I took a puppet improv workshop a couple weekends ago. I now firmly view this entire show as the work of magical wizards. Don't get me wrong - thought it was magic before but now it's an entirely different level of magical wizardry to me.

I have loved Uncle Deadly since I first saw the Vincent Price episode of the Muppets, with the lines:

Vincent Price: I must tell you, I am not alone. I am traveling with my beautiful assistant and a hideously deformed monster!
Fozzie: Oh, hideously deformed is right!
Uncle Deadly: Watch it! I'm the beautiful assistant!

Uncle Deadly has always been an unsung Muppet hero.

"It's the only video North Korea is allowing its people to see!" made me laugh so hard.

I also liked seeing the human PA or intern or whatever that guy's job is, taking orders from Kermit.

The Hollywood Reporter:
Bob Kushell is exiting ABC's The Muppets revival, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Insiders say co-creators Kushell, who served as the series’ showrunner, and executive producer Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory) didn’t say eye-to-eye on the creative direction of the show. There’s talk of Galavant's Kristin Newman stepping in to run the show, but the deal has not yet been finalized.

[..] The series will wrap its fall stretch before going on a midseason hiatus and returning with a rebooted six-episode run after the holiday break.
