100% agree. Absolutely did not see it coming. They did a great job of obviously establishing future plots so no way - oh.

For a few seconds, I thought they were gonna have Colt fall of the balcony, which while f*cked up would have made sense in a soappy way: punishment for having sex with Queen Rayna's daughter AND getting drunk, and setting up a whole Maddy sob story.
So Jeff faling caught me by surprise, then I was like 'at least it wasn't Colt', and then 'Nah, they did not kill off Jeff Fordham just as he was starting to get interesting'.

I read this interview with Oliver Hudson this morning and he talks a lot about how Jeff's character was finally starting to be sort of multidimensional after playing a straight villain for the first two seasons. ("I love it because Jeff has been a dick this entire time, and in the last season and the beginning of this season, we get to see a little bit of his heart and we get to see him let go a little bit and fall in love a little bit and soften up a little bit only to have him fly off the top of a building.")
I didn't realize he'd gotten a gig on another show which sort of made his exit inevitable. I'm glad they didn't just write him out, though.
I wonder what they're going to do with Juliette now that Hayden Panettiere is taking a break as well. She has two more episodes, the last being November 18th. I surely hope they'll get the character into some sort of lengthy treatment program and then when she comes back they can drop the out-of-control starlet/bad mom thing, which is getting a bit tired.
