The 100: Fallen
April 8, 2016 9:13 PM - Season 3, Episode 10 - Subscribe

Things get more complicated. Monty makes a break for it, Murphy helps Ontari navigate the unsteady politics of Polis, and ALIE and Jaha try to break down Raven's resistance.

There's too much to summarize, but in the end we have:
-- Ontari ascended through sheer force of will rather than completing the ceremonies
-- Pike captured by Grounders
-- Kane heading for Polis with said Grounders to meet the new Commander
-- Octavia utterly disgusted with Bellamy, even after he turns on Pike for her sake
-- Monty broken-hearted that his mother turned him in
-- Abby mind-controlled by ALIE
-- ALIE in charge of all of Arkadia
-- Jasper on the run in one of the armored vehicles, with Raven's unconscious body and Clarke, utterly baffled, riding shotgun.

I was pretty happy with this one, on the balance.

Stuff:
* Jaha espousing the removal of free-will is such a Jaha move. It reminded me of nothing so much as his decision to cut off oxygen to a section of the Ark back in S1 without telling anyone, instead of calling for volunteers. He's never really believed anyone else should have a voice, and it surprises me not at all that he's goading ALIE into becoming even worse than she was to start.

* The Arkadians becoming a literal herd of brainwashed zombies, instead of a metaphorical one, was probably the only place they could go after the Pike arc. At the very least, this was creepy and effective, and made more sense than their ethnic cleansing of Lexa's peacekeepers. Also, it let Raven show off her acting chops - that was some great work. Abby giving in felt as in-character as Jaha, too.

* I hope they don't redeem Bellamy, but it feels like they're heading that way. The stuff he did here was fine, but it really, really doesn't make up for participating in the slaughter of 300 friendlies. I agree with Octavia: blood must have blood.

* Jasper is a great 'last voice of sanity.' I'm going to give them a pass about making him such a drunken wreck before, because it set him up to be a great last hope for Skaikru. I'm also very glad he's teamed up with Clarke. Should make for some great times.

* Monte's mom is the worst. Just the worst. She's worse than three Pikes all talking at once. I'm so glad she's now stuck on Team Cyberman.

* I have often compared this show to Game of Thrones, but I think the Ontari/Murphy plot slides them all the way over. I don't know how I feel about that, although I guess it's hard to turn down more Murphy.

* Man, Kane doesn't have a clue what he's walking into. That's gonna be something.

You made the wrong choice, Abby. Sorry Raven.

Yeah. Not only did she make the wrong choice, it was so *obviously* the wrong choice - ALIE showcased exactly what was going to happen to Arkadia if Abby complied:

"I've got Raven so brainwashed I can make her kill herself! You better get in on it so I can use your credibility to turn everyone into puppets for the rest of their short and painful lives! Chop, chop!"

But this is Abby's deal. Useless adults are a major YA dystopian trope, and Abby could be their poster mom.

But totally in character for her.

And totally in character: what sets apart Kane & Abby (now, anyway) from Pike and the kids is that they won't sacrifice an innocent for the good of the collective. Clarke would have let Raven die.

That said, even if Abby had been able to resist this, they would have done it over and over, in all likelihood, until she did give in.

So does ALIE have complete control over everyone, the way she did Raven's body? Does she need everyone to submit individually? Or is Raven just that strong, that there was no way ALIE could take over without Raven being willing to do so, but the others don't need to be in that level of extremity?

I hope Jasper knows to keep Raven blindfolded. And that ALIE doesn't have GPS.

... Does Clarke still have her tracking bracelet?

I don't think we'll know for sure until next week, but this is my suspicion based on the events presented - nobody else was really questioning ALIE, so she didn't really need to 'assume direct control.' (Like, Jaha appears to be willingly complicit in her actions, rather than duped. I'm sure he's not alone.)

I hope Jasper knows to keep Raven blindfolded. And that ALIE doesn't have GPS.

Eh, this is the show that brought us a space station that couldn't point a telescope down at the Earth's surface and see all those Grounders. Fair bet GPS was never invented in The 100-verse.

... Does Clarke still have her tracking bracelet?

Definitely not on her, but I bet she and Jasper can figure out where they dumped the big pile of them when Bellamy led the 'ditch the bracelets' movement in S1.

Seconded. Much as I would have been all "don't do it," she was going to get forced into it one way or another.

This was the second episode without Clarke--until the end, anyway. Did the actress negotiate some time off?
