You Kill Me (2007)

While drying out on the West Coast, an alcoholic hit man (Ben Kingsley) befriends a tart-tongued woman (Téa Leoni) who might just come in handy when it's time for him to return to Buffalo and settle some old scores.

This John Dahl film has the same black humor that made Red Rock West and The Last Seduction so watchable, plus, for once, sympathetic characters. It is really beyond me why Dahl is not more celebrated than he is. The film includes strong performances from Philip Baker Hall, Dennis Farina, Bill Pullman and Luke Wilson.

John Dahl is wonderful. He gave us multiple terrific, near-flawless neo-noirs and we ignored him. Then, ungrateful assholes we are, he still forgave us and became one of our finest TV directors.
