Dance Academy: Crush Test Dummies First Watch
May 8, 2016 1:00 PM - Season 1, Episode 7 - Subscribe
The students struggle with the two toughest challenges of teenage life: dealing with crushes, and learning hip hop.
Also, Kat has the right idea with not involving herself in these boring romantic subplots. I guess it is important to major sections of the audience, but it's the dullest part of the show to me.

Best ballet scene ever: pretty dancer going through a scrapbook of snapshots of ugly point shoe wounds! (I've seen more than one point shoe post performance with blood seeping out the toe box).

Yeah, it's really not too surprising that Kat's ambivalent about her work. The question of whether it's all worth it is actually a good question, and one of the good things about this show is that it isn't pretending otherwise.

This show is a lot like Dawson's Creek for me in that I find the main character almost unwatchably cringey. Xenia Goodwin does a good job but man, is Tara ever a clueless dork.

However, I can't think of a more important skill for a ballet dancer to learn. 10-20 years ago it was rarefied and marvellous for a ballet dancer to make the movement travel visibly through the body, and now, because of hip hop, they're all doing it. At least, all the best ones.
