Euro 2016 posts

First of all, welcome. Following from Talk, here's my idea to have some discussion here at FF for the Euro 2016.

Group stage talk, posted the day Group A matches are played
Round 1: June 10 to 14
Round 2: June 15 to 18
Round 3: June 19 to 22

Knockout Round, posted reasonably before (one day should be enough)
R16: June 25 to 27
QF: June 30 to July 3
SF: July 6 and 7
Final: July 10

7 posts in a month is a bit higher than most tv shows, but is still manageable. If they don't pick up, just the two posts (group and knockout) would suffice. Any comments?

I think this is a great idea. Definitely posting the day of the game sounds good, with one post per round. I'm unlikely to watch the games until a while after they're played, due to time differences, so for me at least I'd prefer not having live discussion. But I can live with it if that's what people prefer.

Could consider combining the SF/final post, maybe, if there's not much posting? (I suspect there might not be much interest from US-Metafilter, compared to the World Cup, but it would be nice to be proved wrong).

This could work. Start by making a combined R16/QF simply titled "knockouts begin", and if things don't pick up, a "deciding stage" post.

I think the biggest issue will be the Copa Centenario, running along at the same time (June 3-26), also featuring the USMNFT. Which, of course, could also be featured in a different post (in fact, the only reason I left it out was because I thought it would be played in July, not June).

(Just a tip about how clubs work: be sure to tag your posts with the tag mefifootball_club, that's how the system knows it's part of your club. I've added the tag to this post and the Talk post.)

The approach to posts sounds reasonable to me.

Any interest in doing Euro Fantasy Football alongside this?

I'm preparing a post about the Euro to go live a few days before the competition begins, not only giving some background of the competition, but also announcing game discussion will have a place over at fanfare, so if anyone wants to have a go at it, let me know the league code here or via memail.
I haven't done Fantasy Football since the mid 90s, but I'll have a go. Someone needs to finish last.

Ah, thanks. Though it was automatic for talk.

I've added a few things of interest that will be happening this Summer to the calendar - Champions League/Europa League final (maybe we could warm up with a fan group post?), Copa CentenĂ¡rio, Euro 2016 and the Olympic Tournament. Feel free to add anything else

Squads are being announced - worth having a preview post?

we won't know until it's up, so go ahead!

"Squads are being announced"

And England's is a mess and a half, as usual. Typical Roy, picks his favourites, and bloody Rooney is in there as well. I am not against some of the Spurs kids, but their behaviour during the Chelsea match is very worrying.

Meanwhile, Sven thinks we can win it!!

I think this will be pretty open with no team looking close to unbeatable, and England doesn't seem to have the rampant ego problem that has plagued the team in the past.
