Better Things: Period

Sam cleans up, makes a speech, and takes a meeting.

Better Things is a new comedy series co-created by Pamela Adlon and Louis C.K., starring Adlon as “Sam Fox,” a single, working actor with no filter trying to raise her three daughters in L.A.

The first episode was the pilot and a bit uneven but still promising. This second episode is really solid. It can definitely be a bit uncomfortable at times (especially if you're a man, imho) but well worth sticking with.

My wife, who doesn't usually tend toward shows like this, got some chuckles from Sam's monologue toward the end.

Louis CK's fingerprints are all over it. I really liked his and Pamela Adlon's interactions in Louis.

I liked it, but it's complicated in the feels department - I'm reluctantly accelerating into that age range and although I don't have kids, some of my friends do. These kids are absolutely horrible and her reaction to them is where the character Sam shines.

It's tragic comedy and I wonder if they're going to try to take it in a different direction? Horace and Pete, another CK production, is similar and they ran it into Bleak City.
