Elementary: Dead Man's Tale

Sherlock and Joan question how well they know Shinwell when they investigate the possibility he may have gotten away with the unsolved murder of his friend, a fellow gang member.

AV Club raises the Jolly Roger with a B+ review.

Both the Amazon summary (above) and the AV Review focus on the Shinwell plot this week, but much more air time is given to the quest to uncover the murder of a man who stole a pirate captain's log.

And for your listening/viewing pleasure, a clip from The Producers.

It's an interesting perspective Shinwell takes at the end.

SPK killed his friend.

This definitely gives Shinwell's season arc another dimension. (Probably why there's a focus on it in the reviews.) We've heard plenty about the sketchy situations he's been getting into during reintroduction to the gang, but never actually seen him performing in that role. Until now. And it's pretty shocking.

As for the pirate plot, when you've got stock references like Pirates of Penzance and The Producers to fall back on it's a damn shame you don't squeeze in a musical sequence somewhere on this ship.

And oh man, Joan must have heard that whole thing on the message Sherlock was still leaving her when Shinwell came along!
