I seriously could not get enough of Elijah's storyline this episode. So much fun watching him and the audition stuff.

I actually had to look up whether or not White Men Can't Jump was being made into a musical. The dance audition made it look possible, and it sort of made me want to see it.

It was also nice to see Marissa Jaret Winokur (Tony winner for Hairspray) appear as the casting director? I couldn't tell exactly what her role was.

Andrew Rannells was Link Larkin on Broadway in Hairspray, though the third replacement for the role. On Instagram he called it a Hairspray reunion to have Winokur on Girls so I think they must have overlapped at some point.

Also, the tribute to Smash was hilarious to me because I hate-watched that show before I met my husband, and I got to spend ten glorious minutes reliving the craziness that anyone would ever think that Katharine McPhee would be a better Marilyn Monroe than Megan Hilty. YouTube clips were dug up. My husband's eyes rolled back in his head. I think I made my point.

Can I, like, get a show of hands about how many of us watched Smash? Because I did, and — sheer delight.

I was so thrilled to get an Elijah episode, and we even got to see Andrew Rannells belt it! So fun.

What did folks think about Elijah's temporary friend? I found that a little weird and maybe verging on Magical Negro territory - like, this girl is just hanging around all day to see how his audition goes? What about her audition?

I had assumed she was involved in the creation of the musical in some way, and so his friendship with her was the reason he got called back.

I'm pretty sure the girl made it through the auditions too.
