Of the things I never expected from an Anne of Green Gables adaptation, Anne's first period, and Mr. & Mrs. Lynde's libidos would have been top of the list, yet here we are. This show is breaking my brain - the juxtaposition of the classic and expected scenes like the raspberry cordial tea disaster, or Matthew's purchase of the puffed-sleeves dress, with these new 'modern' additions is just so jarring. A long-dead sibling for Matthew & Marilla? And a lost love for Matthew? It's going to be sad enough when he meets his end, why the need to pile on more tragedy? I swear, it really does feel to me like young Anne Shirley was hired to punch up the scripts - "wouldn't it be ever so much more tragical if..."

I can't think of a better word to describe Mr. Phillip's word choices for the spelling bee than creepy.

I like that the Cuthberts get a backstory. And the dead brother kinda sorta squinty explains why Matthew and Marilla never married. And we got a good nod to Marilla/Mr. Blythe. Still not hating it.
