The Empire of Gold

The final installment of the Daevabad Trilogy picks up exactly where the last book left off. Nahri and Ali surface on the Nile while Manizheh and Dara now have control of Daevabad.

Banu Manizheh and Dara must try to repair their fraying alliance to stabilize their hold on Daevabad.

Having narrowly escaped their murderous families and Daevabad’s deadly politics, Nahri and Ali, now safe in Cairo, face difficult choices of their own. While Nahri finds peace in the old rhythms and familiar comforts of her human home, she is haunted by the knowledge that the loved ones she left behind and the people who considered her a savior are at the mercy of a new tyrant. Ali, too, cannot help but look back, and is determined to return to rescue his city and the family that remains.

As peace grows more elusive and old players return, Nahri, Ali, and Dara come to understand that in order to remake the world, they may need to fight those they once loved.

What did you think? I liked the first, felt the second started going off course a bit.

I enjoyed it. The second is more palace intrigue/politics than the first or third. In the beginning and the end we discover more of their world, which is the best part of the series. The ending is VERY optimistic, but it's a world filled with magic so why not? What do you think about it?

You know a book is good when you're sad it's over, but you couldn't help tearing through it.
