The Lost Village

Documentary filmmaker Alice Lindstedt has been obsessed with Silvertjärn since she was a little girl. The old mining town's residents all abruptly disappeared in 1959, including her grandmother’s entire family. Ever since, unanswered questions surrounding the only two people who were left—a woman stoned to death in the town center and an abandoned newborn—have plagued her. She’s gathered a small crew of friends in the remote village to make a film about what really happened. They quickly begin to realize the lost village may not be so empty after all.

English translation (from the original Swedish) by Alexandra Fleming.

This is a bit like Limetown by way of Midnight Mass with just a dollop of Midsommar. It isn't as good as the best moments from any of those, but it's a worthwhile read.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through the audio book, and honestly, I'm on team Emmy. I think I'd probably start taking over too if my project leader was this useless!

I couldn't make it to the end. I'm pretty angry about the depictions of mental illness. Missing two doses of Ativan does not turn someone into a raving murderer. Even if the character is exonerated in the end, the way psychosis is talked about in the novel is irresponsible.
