Mystery Science Theater 3000: SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL Rewatch Season 6, Ep 14
Re-rewatch! (wait, really?) A fairly bog-standard pilot for a TV show from 1970, about the people and events at a major airport. This one did make it to series, but with an almost entirely different cast. File this under Seventies-tastic. This is the third time MST Club has done this one, since it somehow made it into the best-of poll we did a few years back. Previously and again.
Mystery Science Theater 3000: CRASH OF MOONS Rewatch Season 4, Ep 17
Rewatch! As I mentioned the previous time this episode has come up, the title of this is reported in the episode as "Crash of THE Moons," but on the title card of the movie it's "Crash of Moons." It's the other compilation of Rocky Jones, Space Ranger TV episodes repackaged as a movie; the first was 413 MANHUNT IN SPACE. This is the one with John Banner, Sgt. Schultz himself as a jovial space guy. There's a General Hospital clip included as a short as well. Bit of a content warning, the TV show was made at a time in which the G-word, for Romani (and shared as a name with the show's big purple robot), was more commonly used, and the guys on the show make reference to it often. In MST3K's most recent incarnation (the stage show), it should be noted, this character has been rechristened G.P.T. Previously
Mystery Science Theater 3000: MASTER NINJA I Rewatch Season 3, Ep 22
Re-rewatch! Timothy Van Patten and Lee Van Cleef are the most unlikely ninjas in Japanese exoticism history. They travel the country in typical 70s TV show fashion, which fits because this is actually two episodes of The Master. There's a hamster, they live in a van, they solve the problems of the people they meet. It's not very realistic. Previously and again. Not the episode you expected? Look inside for the reason for that. [more inside]
Mystery Science Theater 3000: SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL Rewatch Season 6, Ep 14
Rewatch! What would Airplane! be if it weren't played for laughs, like, at ALL? It'd be a lot like San Francisco International, a pilot for a TV series heavily inspired by the movies that inspired Airplane!, like Zero Hour and the various Airports. So come back with us and linger in a place that most people want to pass through as quickly as possible. Previously.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Distant Voices Rewatch Season 3, Ep 18
It's Bashir's birthday, and he's feeling especially old, but why is Garak acting so suspiciously? I mean, more so than usual. [more inside]
Anyone interested in (re)watching Wiseguy?
I just noticed that Wiseguy, the 1987-1990 crime drama, is streaming on Hulu. Alan Sepinwall described it as "a dark, moody, intelligent drama" that was "20 years ahead of its time" due to its then-groundbreakingly-lengthy story arcs, which allowed the show to develop richer villains than the typical case-of-the-week shows of the time. From what I've read, it seems like an important foundational show for modern TV, but it's been largely forgotten today. I think I'm going to watch it - would anybody else be interested in watching along with me? [more inside]
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Abandoned Rewatch Season 3, Ep 6
Quark finds a baby in a pile of junk, then things get weird. Who's your daddy? [more inside]
Game of Thrones First Watch Threads
For the past few months I've been posting First Watch with Books Threads for the initial seasons of Game of Thrones. In several weeks, we'll complete season 3. Season 4 threads already exist on FanFare from when they aired live. Should I bother to create new ones, or end at S03E10?
