When I watched the pilot during Amazon pilot season, I hoped the show would immediately abandon Joel and focus on Midge's stand up. I knew that wasn't terribly likely, but Joel is so sooo awful.

His dad is hilarious though - "You know what else is French? The guillotine!" And I really like the relationship between him and Abe. I still hope we get progressively less of Joel, but I guess he's the comedic inspiration at least for now.

Looking forward to meeting Midge's lawyer. I feel like that's a fun character opportunity.

I'm glad this has been so much fun so far, after the underwhelming (for me, at least) Netflix return of the Gilmore Girls last year.

Yeah, I really didn't like the focus early in this episode on Joel, who is the least interesting character in the pilot, but the writing and characterization are so much fun, particularly when we get back to the fantastic pairing of Midge and Susie, that I am ready to binge for sure.

This is so fun to watch. I need more TV shows that are fun. And I want all the coats the women wear, and of course the hats.

Joel's parents almost make up for Joel still being around. He is the worst.

"French food is so salty. Do they do that on purpose?"

Living the show. So glad to see Rachel Brosnahan again!

One thing I didn’t get was how Midge let Joel get away with saying they were separating instead of saying he left. I think his mother would have had quite a bit to say to her son about that.

You can find a list of the music used in this episode - and all the others - here. The show has won back to back Emmy awards for its "music supervision". I love their choices.
