The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020)

Terror grips a small mountain town as bodies are discovered after each full moon. Losing sleep, raising a teenage daughter, and caring for his ailing father, officer Marshall struggles to remind himself there's no such thing as werewolves.

89% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes: The Wolf of Snow Hollow treads somewhat unsteadily between horror and comedy, but writer-director-star Jim Cummings' unique sensibilities make for an oddly haunting hybrid.

rogerebert.com: More than just your standard horror/comedy, “The Wolf of Snow Hollow” is a tonal balancing act, a movie that doesn’t go for laughs or horror as much as weave various tones and styles through its excellent script.

Distribution was hampered by COVID-19 lockdowns, the film is now available to rent/buy via Amazon Prime.

I thought this was a real gem of a small scale horror movie. While there were a few comedic beats, imho it was closer to a straight horror movie than something like Slither or Shaun of the Dead. There is some real verisimilitude to the character moments, looks like the writer was really drawing from some lived experience.

I liked this, but this is right up my alley as an smaller intimate indy horror/ comedy that aims for subtle and tries for something a little different. But I have no idea/ recollection how this movie ended up in my queue April 2021.

It's not a chuckle fest but does a good job framing the absurdities of "just life."

Robert Forster is perfect (RIP, his last role) in his limited role, and I'm always thrilled to see Riki Lindhome, playing against type as a deadpan/ straightman here.

I'm rather impressed with Jim Cummings as a young (he's 35?!) writer/ director/ actor. 'Thunder Road' (2018 - Kickstarter-ed at <>
He's conventionally attractive, has great hair, and seems funny and intelligent - I'm curious to see if he gets picked up as a lead or if wants to stay behind the camera.
