Intruder (1989)
October 27, 2022 8:34 AM - Subscribe

The overnight stock crew of a local supermarket find themselves being stalked and slashed by a mysterious maniac.

Starring Elizabeth Cox, Renée Estevez, Dan Hicks, David Byrnes, Eugene Robert Glazer, Billy Marti, Burr Steers, Craig Stark, Alvy Moore, Lawrence Bender, Bruce Campbell, Scott Spiegel, Greg Nicotero.

Written by Lawrence Bender and Scott Spiegel, who are, respectively, Quentin Tarantino's producing partner, and Sam Raimi's writing partner on Evil Dead II. Produced by Lawrence Bender and Charles Band (the head of Full Moon Pictures). Directed by Scott Spiegel.

Not many professional reviews on RT, as it was not that widely noted at the time of its initial release. Lots of reviews on Letterboxd, though and the horror faithful mostly very much love it.

Currently streaming in the US on Shudder, Arrow, Tubi, and Vudu. JustWatch listing. Shudder and Tubi, at least, have the uncut version (which lists at either 87 or 88 minutes). That version contains five minutes of KNB FX's gore work that is missing in the 83 minute version.

This plays like what the credits suggest: a bunch of people from the Raimi camp (and some from what would become the Tarantino camp) fucking around and having a blast. It's probably only for true believers in horror, but if that's you, it's a good time.
