I didn't feel comfortable tagging this one "horror" because I think that carries certain expectations with it, but for me there was a real sense of creeping dread to it. I was fine with it, and quite liked the film, but YMMV.

I've long said that if Far From Heaven is Todd Haynes's tribute to Douglas Sirk, Safe is his love letter to Stanley Kubrick. He uses the same kind of visuals and unanswered questions to instill an unsettling sense of existential dread.

Hell, chemical sensitivity runs in my family (the silver lining of the pandemic was that I could finally wear a mask in public without a bunch of questions) and I still finished this movie with a creeping sense of "What did I just see?" (In a good way.)
