Dick Tracy Special: Tracy Zooms In (2023)

Warren Beatty presents his second Dick Tracy sequel? Well, yeah. Sorta.
Basically, this is the second time that out of pure orneriness Warren Beatty has made a "sequel" to his 1990 film Dick Tracy that is really just a low effort televised interview with him in costume as Tracy that extends his exclusive film rights to the character for another few years.
Despite the film being a hit, Disney never came through on its promises to let him make a sequel. The Tribune Co thought they could swipe the rights back, but Beatty sued and won. So Beatty, first in 2010, and now again in 2023 made a fuck you, this legally counts as a sequel so I'm keeping the rights sequel that is so phoned in, it's like Andy Kaufman-level trolling. He dumps them on TCM for a single showing in the middle of the night and gets to hold the rights a while longer.
This time, he'll have the rights through 2027, when the character becomes public domain. [chef's kiss]
Want to watch Beatty in costume as Tracy mumbling, "No, no, no... that's not how I would've done it" over interminable clips from the 1990 film? How about Beatty as Tracy having lunch with Beatty as himself? Leonard Maltin and Ben Mankiewicz are the interviewers.

Well, I watched both. For those coming after, it is not necessary to watch the first one because you get the gist of it in the second one. Odd but entertaining in a chill kinda way.

This was oddly relaxing to watch, real 2am cable TV energy. I wish he would do this for the Bulworth character instead. Just a man getting older and older wearing the latest hip hop fashions. Trap house Bulworth. Lean-drinking Bulworth, etc.
